Beacon Hill Light Rail Tunnel
Artech has been discussing cleaning Dan Corson’s marvelous sculptures in the Beacon Hill Light Rail tunnel with the owner, Sound Transit, and we thought we would bring them to light for those who have not seen them. 18 large-scale glowing sculptures are suspended from the cobalt blue ceiling of the tunnel. Artech installed them in June of 2009 and our work days started at 6pm so the power to the trains could be shut off while we worked on scissor lifts. Inspired by microbes and deep sea creatures, they are definitely otherworldly and wonderfully strange. If you take the light rail, do get off at the Beacon Hill station so you can view the sculptures in both sides of the station.
